IanthePez Lawrence's Guild Research
The following is Lawrence's guild research. Not all guilds were done.

Lawrence collected this information for us by hacking the pre-encription data files (the last BETA version, I believe). Some of the information will no longer be accurate, but we wish to preserve the research as he did it. For accurate Guild Level targets refer to the 'living' "Target Guild Levels" archive topic. -- Blue Knight

ARTISAN:

Well, I found the location in the character data file that determines your XP. I set
this to ~100 million, and found that my level remained the same, but it regestered
as -100 million To Pin. After leveling once, I found that I could instantly level again,
and again, only stopping for quests.

Armed with this knowledge, I decided to see what an artisan can give you, and
raised one to level 224, recording A/D values and mandatory quests.

The A/D didn't follow a tight formula like I hoped. It was +3 for each 2 levels up to
30, +3 for each 3 levels to 45, +3 for each 4 levels to 137 and +3 every 5 levels
from there on, maxing at 165/165 at level 197. I'm going to do the same thing
shortly with Ninja next (since they seem to have the next highest A/D rate) to see a
comparison.

Some interesting trivia:
At level 224, Magical Entry still cost 24 mana.
The artisan never learned a 2nd language or extra attack.
Thieving % was only 29.

If you are interested in the mandatory quests, here they are:

8, Kill Orc, 200 gold
20, return Journeyman's Key, 750 gold
31, Kill Twisted Dwarf, Tome of Endurance
40, return Feather Leather Armor, Scarab of Protection
51, Kill Scyllama, Red Dragon
64, return Wyvern, Bladed Shield
75, return Aard of Being, Goblin Shaman
88, (just got the reward), 10000 gold
100, (just got the reward), Adamantite Chain Mail

------------------
BARBARIAN:

Barbarians get A/D for quite a while, stopping at level 515 with final scores of
169.4/192.5

The Barbarians stats are, in my opinion, miserable. Even the lowly thief advances
faster. The thief has a higher max defence (of 194.4 at lvl 394) and the thief max
attack of 158.4 isn't clipsed by barbarian until the barb hits lvl 460, 66 levels later.
The only advantage that Barbs have is the use of more weaponry and armor (can
wear chain, shield, and guantlets) and multi attacks.

Extra attacks come at
1 - 59
2 - 268
3 - Greater the 526

The percentages at level 526 come in as follows (stats in () ar for lvl 460 for
comparison to other guilds):
Thieving 65% (63)
Backstab 47% (43)
Critical 0% (0)
Multihit 19% (17)
Fighting 31% (30)
Perception 37% (37)
Language 17% (16)

Learned Goble to 74%

The thieving score is close to a thief of the same level (the thief at 460 was 76%),
so Barbs do make decent substitutes for thieving in a non-neutral character,
however, the ninja (at 460) has a skill of 59, which is only 4 points below barb, and
the ninja get more attacks, much better AD, Critical hits, and better Fighting and
Perception.

Moral of the story, if you are going to run a Barbarian, you need a Warrior as well
(since you can't be Barb and Paladin, and if you have Ninja you don't need Barb).

And for mandatory quests:
6, Kill Kobold, Iron Battle Axe
15, Kill Outcast, 1000 gold
29, Kill Outcast Golbin, Tome of Might
42, return Badger Scull, Steel Helmet
55, Kill Norn, Ring of Opening
67, Kill Giant Raven, 7500 gold
80, ??, Mercenary
92, ??, Gauntlets of Might
100, ??, Axe of Infliction

EXPLORER:

Well, I must admit that I'm pleasantly surprised by the explorers.

Explorers max AD at level 428 with a value of 198.4/241.8 These scores are just a
tad below the Paladin's max (of 210.8/244. . Explorers easily surpass Barbarian with
much better A/D and fighting %, and they can critical hit.

Unfortunately, even though they look good, I don't see Explorers becoming a Main
guild. The fighting is nice, but is not as good as any of the 3 main fighters (Warrior,
Ninja, Paladin). The thieving is Ok, but is considerably surpassed by Ninja, Barbarian
and of course Thief. They get cheap movement spells, but there are no Expl only
spells (even after adding in all Treatise/Librahms/etc..).

The time that Explorers will see the greatest use is with a Mushpot Saris. Since the
Saris lacks the 3 main fighting guild, the Explorers provide a guild that can use the
most weapons/armors along with decent fighting skill.

They don't get any extra attacks.

As for the % at lvl 460:
Thieving 22%
Backstab 0%
Critical 33%
Multihit 0%
Fighting 39%
Perception 99%
Language 49%

Laguages: Goble, Orcish, Elvish, and Dwarvish to 100%, Necromic 83%, La-sai 69%,
Kruelk 59%, Morkal 44%

Mandatory quests:
8, return Iron Dagger, 500 gold
17, return Glowing Rock, Dust of Locating
31, return Pseudo Dragon, Potion of Fitness
42, return Potion of Youth, Steel Mace
56, Kill Horda Giant, Amulet of Flames
64, return Giant Badger, 7000 gold
76, return Ancient Scroll of Discovery, Steel Plate Armor
88, return Daylyn's Grin, Sphere of Dislocation
100, return Thief Gloves, Ethereal Helmet

------------------
NINJA:

First, the full Ninja info:

Final A/D = 244.8/244.8
At level 249 Ninja's A/D surpased Artisan's Max AD (Art max was 165/165) with a
value of 166.6/166.6

Extra attacks:
1 - 28
2 - 60
3 - 131
4 - 287
5 - Greater then 465 (thats where I stopped, the % score was 55%)

Thieving 59%
Backstab 26%
Critical 43%
Multihit 55%
Fighting 51%
Perceptn 66%
Language 17%

Learned Goble as only language (and that to only 78%)

the mandatory quests though:

7 Kill Footpad, Iron Dagger
19 Kill Outcast, 750 gold
29 return Explorer's Guild Plan, Aard of Being
40, return Disciple, 2000 gold
48, Kill Slave Masher, Steel Dagger
60, return Te-waza of Self Infliction, Boots of Evading
75, return Daemon, 9000 gold
88, return Aard of Being, Silver Dragon
100, return Ravager, Te-waza of Demise

------------------
PALADIN:

Damn, Paladins are annoying. They get SO MANY quests, thats why it took so long.

Anyway, here are the results:

Max A/D at level 420 with values 210.8/244.8

These values are well below that of Warrior. The maximum defense is the same as a
Ninja's max defense, but the attack is definately lacking. I guess this is to
compensate for the weak healing they get.

Paladins get extra swings at:
1 - 56
2 - 243
3 - greater then 460

For the percentages:
Thieving <9% (see below)
Backstab 0%
Critical 43%
Multihit 27%
Fighting 58%
Perception 38%
Language 33%

Learned Goble 100, Orcish 100, Elvish 64, Dwarvish 49.

About thieving, I had to start with an Artisan since Paladin's required to high of
stats to start with. Artisans start with 9% thieving, and it never increased. Pretty
sad really.

Another note, guild penalties max at 1.5.

Mandatory Quests:
9, Kill Skeleton, Bronze Plate Armor
21, Kill Twisted Dwarf, 1000 gold
32, return Tome of Detachment, Potion of Leadership
44, return Cross of Redemption, Crystal Sword
51, return Red Dragon, 8000 gold
61, return Holy Beads, Aard of Being
77, ??, Cloak of Invisibility
89, Kill Dungeon Pirate, Scylama
100, just reward, Paladin's Helm

Overall, I don't think I'l be playing a paladin anytime soon.

------------------
THIEF:

Well, I finished thieves this morning. Rather uneventful.

Max A/D at level 394 with value 158.4/194.4

The thief's attack skill never made it past Artisan 200, and the Thief's max defense
is equivalent to a lvl 322 ninja or a lvl 271 Warrior. The thief never gets a 2nd
attack, nor does he get critical strikes. The percentages at lvl 460 (same lvl as
Warrior for comparison) are :

Thieving 76%
Backstab 55%
Critical 0%
Multihit 0%
Fighting 14%
Perception 56%
Language 24%

Gain Goble to 100% and Orcish to 74% (Same as Warrior)

As a side note, Magical Entry never costs less then 3 mp.

The mandatory quest rewards weren't all that inspiring either:

7, Kill Orc, Padded Leather Armor
20, return Nugena Gloves, Salve of Health
35, Kill Cutthroat, 3000 gold
49, Kill Skuldragl, Thief Sword
55, return Scavanger, Aard of Being
66, return Thief's Chest, 6500 gold
79, return Gloves of the Blackgaurd, Cloak of Invisiblity
91, (just got reward), Burglar
100, return Amulet of Flames, Poison Dagger

------------------
WARRIOR:

Here are my results for Warriors:

A/D max at level 449 at a value of 250/273.6
Warrior surpassed a 200 lvl Art at lvl 243 for attack and lvl 218 for defense. The
Warrior also beat out Ninja on both attack and defense, but just barely for attack.

Extra Attack:
1 - 46
2 - 162
3 - 578

Percentages (at lvl 460):

Thieving 8%
Backstab 0%
Critical 55%
Multihit 45% (2 extra)
Fighting 76%
Perception 29%
Language 24%

Goble at 100% and Orcish at 74%

Mandatory quests:
6, Kill Giant Owl, Iron Sword
18, Kill Hiksae, 800 gold
30, Kill Slave Driver, Gloves of Strength
45, Kill Namana, Crystal Sword
56, (just got reward) (Staue of Ge'tuk??), Aard of Being
62, Kill Goblin Gaurd, 7500 gold
75, return Black Chain Mail, Dungeon Pirate
84, (just got reward) (skull??), Adamantite Shield
