Board Rules
Edit: July 28 2002 ~ moved from the General Discussion and parked here 'for the record' ...
__________________________________________________

Hounder had a good idea - I think - which was to make a 'sticky topic' with rules at the top of the board. Now - we have managed without rules for years, so I'm proposing that we just state:

Board Rules -
1) There are no rules except ....
2) Behave - we'll let you know if you step over the line!
3) Do NOT post the T-Room co-ordinates in public anywhere - you will be tracked down and rendered harmless.

Let me know what you think, or how they should read either by post or PM or email. After a week or so, I'll distill the results, remove any additional posts to this thread and leave a 'locked' and short as possible version 'stuck' to the top of the board.

Nimrod
looks good to me.
all i want in there.

Hounder
Question:
Does that rule include things like posting websites ( personal or public ) that will give out the coordinates?

Decklin
yes 'in public anywhere' should cover it ?

Sortiri
All the above works for me Looking forward to other view points

So...are you saying that you aren't sure if Hounder had a good idea, or are you saying that you aren't sure if it's Hounder's idea?

Game on,

Decklin
no

GTWS
Behave?

Too vague- I think the only rule that was ever mentioned is the tearoom.

What does "Behave" mean? I think expressing one's opinion is extremely valuable, as long as the opinion does not spoil the quality of gameplay.

I think Decklin has done a fine job of moderating, so Perhaps I'm just thinking too deep here !!!

gold dragon
Rules seem fine to me, altho "behave" like that seems a bit vague....

The only thing I can think of (on the topic of the tea room), is that a request to either remove the coords or make it something like a zip file. No sense in punishing someone who either doesn't know about the rules or otherwise just makes a mistake....(like posting things at 3am after having been up 28 hours...)

EDIT: The one most recently called "that guy2" should not be given any benifit of the doubt. And those as don't post here but do play demise(Im pretty sure that there are some) wouldn't be affected by this...... for them, there is not much that can be done.

Blue Knight
Board Rules
1) Enjoy the Demise Community and forum - treat others with respect and the way you would like to be treated.

2) Don't spoil the game for others. It's much more fun discovering the game for oneself, but sometimes a player needs/asks for help. Provide guidance, hints, suggestions, links to the Knowledge Archives or fan sites that can provide the help that they need or share your experiences. But keep in mind that if you just give them the answer (like the coords to find a quest item) you are depriving them of the excitement and thrill of self accomplishment.

3) The only 'spoiler' that we don't want posted is the location of the Tea Room Entrance, nor any additional hints to its location. See the Knowledge Archives for the "official" hints and story of its origin. If you need more help, ask a board member off-line (private message or email) - that board member should remember rule #2.

4) Don't post cheats or discussions about "stealing" the game.

5) Foul or abusive language is not acceptable.

6) If you need help don't forget to check the Knowledge Archives or use the search function. You MIGHT find that the answer to your question is already provided. But if you don't we'll still answer your question - we love to show off our knowledge.

7) Keep a link to Decklin's Domain in your favorites. That's our backup in case we lose this forum!

And the addendums: (feel free to add some more!)

A) If you ask about the J-Key don't take most of the answers seriously. You WILL get comments about the Journeyman's tower, mother-in-law, bathroom, daughter's chastity belt, etc. It's probably the most commonly asked question on the board so we have fun with it to relieve the boredum.

B) If you ask Nimrod where to find something he will always tell you on level 29 (that's the only level he's run for the last year!).

C) Board Magic: Post that you are looking for something and you WILL find it!

D) The seer is a crook, quack, and con artist! (but will force pop some items and monsters above level ## ??).

E) NEVER try to take advantage of Sortiri during a group hug in the tavern. Either your fingers or something more valueable will be 'detached'. Sortiri is a Lady, but also an experienced Adventurer with a sharp dagger!

F) Don't ask Gold Dragon to 'hold' anything for you. Dragons add shiney items to their 'stash' and NEVER give them up without a fight!

G) Anybody hear from Dogg?

H) Artegal WILL keep the top spot on Spinnerville - and the second, third, fourth, ...

I) The "Best" character or party is the one that you are playing!

J) Everyone has an opinion! The RIGHT one is MINE!

Blue Knight
Addendum addition:

K) If you are pinned and still quested for an item or monster - you WON'T find it until you switch to another guild.

L) Lurkers who de-lurk to respond to polls do NOT lose their "lurker status".

Decklin
Very Good !! I particularly liked rule No. 7 ... verra astute 'hic' - as Artegal might on occasion say

TheDuke
/me notes he is not managed anywhere yet.

/me sobs uncontrollably

*sob* Looks good to me those *sob* rules, not really anything I would *sob* like to add... well maybe one thing *sob* comes to mind but, nah *sob* nevermind.

Hounder
Heh, funny thing is, I was actually thinking along the same basic rules as Blue Knight was...

Of course, an addem/actual rule: Begging will get you something worse than just being ignored...

YourPrince
In homage to Thorgal,

BLERG!!!

Archi
Remove addendum H. Now!

Blue Knight
Addendums are for EVERYONE to add!
M) BLERG! (Thorgal)

N) Archi's a wannabee! (A Wannabee #1 on Spinnersville!)

O) TheDuke can spell better than "The Troll"!

Archi
P) Blue Knight, the man to talk to when you need advice about the game. Written numerous tutorials, instructions and directions. Done five years of extensive searching, has yet to find his first Vorpal Blade.

utildayael
I think BlueKnight covered about everything.

Artegal
I totally agree with addendums h) and n)

Archi
I think m) is also not bad.

Blue Knight
P) Blue Knight - a Lok Wannabee (without the control issues )

Demise Dude
Q) If there is anything useless, Demise Dude has it covered

Gotta get my name in there somewhere!

steelfiredragon
looks good to me

Shon-dahre
R: Don't annoy Shon-dahre, or he will whinge until you destroy your own ears!

S: If Shon-dahre comes on multiplayer drunk, don't tell him to jump off the roof of his house, stare at his ceiling and spin in circles, or try to fly, because he will try, and fail, and get upset.

Artegal
T: Artisans rule.

Kakan
U: no more rules ARRRRGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

TOR
V. NO WHINING.

W. There can be only one.

wes
X, the unknown factor..

Decklin
Y, not?

Demise Dude
Z, Brats suck!

Thorgal the red

Blue Knight
to Decklin:
Seems like the 7 rules are acceptable. If you like them feel free to edit/modify as you see fit ("you the 'Moderator'!"). I'd suggest you add the link to the "Decklin Demise Forums" like you did in your sig at the end of rule #7. They can always be modified by you later if necessary.

I'd also suggest starting a separate thread for rule addendums and putting our first set of 26 in that. That way they can be modified by the community as they see fit. Or not and let that nonsense die a quick and quiet death

Sortiri
I would also recommend putting the rules and all 26 (and counting ) addendums in the KA for "posterity" especially addendum E as I just finished sharpening Dragon Fang Dagger and Vorpal Blade

Demise Dude
Is talking about Sortiri and moving furniture considered "behaving"

EDIT: Have your laughs at that one, it didn't come out right. Lets try this:

If Sortiri starts talking about moving furniture again, is she behaving?

Hounder
That doesn't sound right...

Guess it is better when I say it or something, as I have moved far more furniture than DD has...

Sortiri

Blue Knight
Sure wish I could add things to the K.A. again!!!

Decklin or Varzil - have you tried replying to a K.A. post or adding a new post? Whoever the A-E 'admin' is hasn't been able to get my moderator rights working except for editing existing posts. (Not that they've tried that much or recently - last thing I heard was something about a board sw upgrade that 'might' fix the problem - obviously didn't.).

If someone still has working rights at least we could send/post updates thru them.

Demise Dude
We must find Dogg!

Decklin
Well Blue Knight - I have never been able to post to the KA before but since A-E had to change my permissions to allow the banning feature to work it looks as though I can post there ????
I'll contact Chris.

Lappen
Havent been able to post in the ka for a long time either

gold dragon
For E: How about this:

Don't take advantage of Sortiri during group hugs.... SHE is already free enough...... with her daggers, that is.... and she DOESN'T always use them in the dungeon!

F: Actually, THIS particular Dragon has a large enough hoard, thank-you-very-much!

However, "Donations" are always accepted, unless it is cursed.
Just Don't try to steal from me, as it just irritates me. And irritating something 40 meters long and breathes fire, and can cast magic like there is no tomorrow is not a wise idea......

Unless you are Nimrod...

gold dragon
Very Funny, "Hounder"...... "Nimrod" was given a magical gift. He truly "finds" all the equipment because of that.

I have a simmilar gift, that has been used on me, but there are no more for 100 years.......

Artegal
Gold Dragon

Just remember when Artegal meets a dragon/dragons in the dungeon what happens. No matter how long they are, or how powerful. Artegal is immune to dragon fear. They always end up headless at his feet

Artegal

Decklin
a quote from "Highlander" ????

THIS particular Dragon has a lair that is anti-magic.
THIS dragon is also complete weapon-immune, due to size. 2-handed great swords are as thorns, and poison wears out long before I even notice it.
I doubt there would be any problems between a confrontation between the two of us(THAT way, at least).

To find out more about this, I suggest reading the PERN novels and Dragons of Spring Dawning. I created this from a combination of the 2. The sheer size of the Dragons from pern-- Remember Ramoth is 45 meters long, roughly, with a head that stands taller that any human-- and the magical abilities & color of the greatest of GOOD dragons(second to the platinum Dragon (the God)) with a few added features from Demise.

So I'm not overly worried, nor frightened.

Hounder
< sniff > < sniff >

Either that is the smell of a dragon that really needs a bath, or that is one nasty ego....

Hmmm, choices choices...

Edit: Wow, just noticed I broke 1900 posts... Only 99 more to hit the allpowerful 2K... :P

Decklin
no wonder, he's too big to fit in the bath !!!!

Artegal
Gold Dragon

I have read those books.

Have you read the Belgariad ?

My character was trained in the art of sorcery by Belgarion himself, who could kill Gods. I am sure I would have no trouble at all using the power of my mind to kill any dragon, no matter how big or powerful you claim it is

Nimrod
thats why i like D&D (former AD&D, former D&D) since 18 years...

u have the ability to kill everything...
even Gods...

Actually, Yes, I have read the Belgariad, the Mallorean, Belgarath the Sorcerer & Polgara the Sorceress.

Need I remind you of the special powers of Dragons from those books? Yes? alright.

The special power of Dragons from the Belgariad is that they are totally immune to anything from the Will and the Word(Belgarath's term for Sorcery). This was given because Torak liked Dragons. So where does This leave us, Artegal?

Hounder: You smell a DOG. My lair is bordered by ocean, so I get a regular bath just by going outside.

Nimrod: Yes, I can Die. I never said I couldn't. I DO have the powers of Illusion, and telelportation, so I am EXTREMELY hard to kill. Not impossible, just Difficult. My varoutie way is to cast Invisibility, An illusion that creates a duplicate of me, and teleport the real me to safety, almost at the same time(Contingency spell from BG2 can do this).....

Hounder
Oh, so that smell is a fishy smelling dragon. Okay...

caduceus
Hmmm.............. I like dragons, some of them are rather cuddly. Like the female one in the Magician series by Raymon E. Feist.

I used to play AD&D about 18 years ago, with all the books (which I still have) and the dice and the character sheets. I even still have a huge dungeon adventure that I compiled which takes up an entire folder with about 90 pages of notes and 25 maps. I had to let one of my friends play my character ( for the sake of fairness), which I still have the character sheet for. Got him to a really high level warrior and even owned a two handed, twin blade Vorpal Sword, plus a Portabel Hole and a Throne of the Gods, plus a bunch of other stuff but it has been about 15 years since I last played so can't remember all the stuff I had.

Man them Portable Holes were the best thing to have when adventuring.

Nimrod
its much fun to read books from Feist.

GD,
whatever.
like i said, "you can kill everything there".

sure, ist difficult to get a DC 42 God dead...
but hey, no risk no fun.
and w my newly found "Sword of Kas".
okay, we played a specialy tailored campaign to get the sword just for me...

and crossed Epic lvl some time ago...

Decklin
hmmmm ... Raymond E. Feist .... I'm sorry but - I still think the absolute best 'playable' rpg in terms of character development and story background etc etc was Betrayal at Krondor. (I also love those chests you can lock stuff up in!) Sierra studios gets my vote for most incompetent sequel ever with "Return to Krondor". If there was a multi-player version of the original game I'd be in mortal danger of total immersion

TheDuke
I made an avatar of Death in the NWN toolset.

CR of 240

With it's Gaze of Death it managed to kill three Dragons standing in a line.

Now try to beat that

Nimrod
Gaze of Death = natural, supernatural or spell like ability?

if one of above...

i'll take 50 Spell Resistance, Major Turning Defense and Imunity to Death efects.

tata....
ur mob is toast, cuz his primary weapon, the gaze, wont work anymore.

Hounder
TheDuke
Hey I said it had a CR of 240 so you wouldn't think the Gaze is the only weapon right? It was just one of it's abilities.

I doubt any creature could defeat my avatar but of course I made it ridicilously overpowered and, no doubt, no fun to fight with

I mean... lvl 120 with 2500 hp's doing over 150 damage per swing with it's primary weapon... it's Scythe!

Oh and a SR of 50... won't get you anywhere. Think 90+
Immunity to Death effects would work of-course.
No... I think there is always a creature you can make so hard it will be impossible to defeat while still let it have a few weaknesses.

But I was just experimenting how strong you could make a creature within NWN and I must admit --> FEAR!

steelfiredragon
spam alert. all of the above posts that deals with ego.
good grief.

just my lucky day, cant even self detonate.
dont want to copy heero, but tag along on my journey into hell

the god of death is back from hell.

Archi
I think it's time to clean up and lock this thread. Keep just the rules.

TheDuke
Yep I agree with Archi.
